Orwell, in 1946, wrote his famous 'Politics and the English language' to point out how words shape our understanding of the world. Today, this means that "gunmen" is not the same as "terrorists", "bombardment" is not the same as "self-defence", "genocide" is not the same as "retaliation", "ceasefire" is not the same as "giving up", "proportionate response" is not the same as "deterrence", "civilian casualties" is not the same as "human shields", "resistance" is not the same as "massacre", "freedom" is not the same as "eradication". Language reveals one's true intentions, emotions, and biases, so choose your words carefully.
